Is now a good time to start a business?

With the stockmarket in a slump, interest rates high, and the US in recession (are we going to catch a cold?), the question for many people is 'should I wait before I start a new business?'

This is a valid question.  Consumer sentiment is down, so that means retail businesses would be a struggle, doesn't it?  Well, the answer to that question is probably 'yes.'  But consider some other economic factors:

  1. Housing market's in a slump, few new dwellings have been built, and there's a housing affordability (even AVAILABILITY) crisis.  So, as the stock market posts poor returns, where will investors put their money now?  Quite possibly, given the dynamics of supply, demand, and returns, residential property will come back into flavour.

What does this mean?  Who benefits?  Builders, subcontractors, building suppliers, home furnishing industry, hardware, decorators, and the list goes on.  So when you see a broad picture of doom and gloom, be smart and look past the headlines to the real dynamics.

There's a new opportunity in any economic climate!
